My Profile

My name is Arturo, I'm 22 years old and I'm studying Chemical Metallurgical Engineering.

I was attracted to that major because it's really interesting to make alloys, study the metals' structures and have the ability to make metallic pieces and protect them against corrosion to make more resistant, durable and lighter bridges and buildings.

In my free time I like drawing, playing the guitar and mostly sitting down, watching T.V. and eating a bunch of popcorn.

My favorite dish is spaghetti and rice, but I like pizza and hamburgers aswell.

I'm a very friendly person, but I prefer to be alone just reflexing about things, I like making fun of almost everything and I'm a happy person.

Letter to a Canadian

Hello, my name is Arturo and I'm really happy that you are visiting Mexico. It's a great country, the people here are very friendly, there's always something new to see and the food is delicious.

Some of the best places to visit are the Teotihuacan pyramids, the Chapultepec zoo and lake, the downtown, the Templo Mayor, the Anthropology Museum, the Basilica of Guadalupe, just to mention a few.

If you want to eat some traditional food, try the pozole, the mole poblano (especially the enchiladas or just with chicken). Of course you have to eat tacos, sopes and gorditas. If you drink alcohol, try the tequila or the mezcal, but don't drink too much. I hope that you don't get sick because of the food, but make sure to bring some antacid, because that kind of food is really spicy and may cause you indigestion. Just remember to be aware of the Montezuma's revenge

I don't really know what Canada is like but I'm sure it's a wonderful country that I hope to see someday.

Well my friend, I hope that you can write me back. In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck and a pleasant stay in Mexico. Take care and be happy

Sincerely, Arturo

P.S. Montezuma's revenge is a well known myth that we have in Mexico. They say that every foreign person gets sick when he/she eats our food, because Montezuma (an Aztec emperor) was defeated by foreigners from Spain, so he cast a curse. This so called curse is just the result of a very spicy food, especially the chiles (hot peppers) and the abuse of them, so you don't have anything to worry.

My Expectations

During this course, I would like to learn more words than the ones I already know, also it would be great to improve my writing skills by reducing the mistakes that I could make.

Reading articles, listening to conversations and writing in English is what I'm looking forward to doing, this will help me in the future while I'm developing my career by getting a Master's Degree and a P.h.D. In a short term the things mentioned before will help me when I'm reading especialized articles related to metallurgy or materials that are necesary in my education.

Also, I need to polish those details if I want to go to England or the U.S. so the language is not an obstacle for me.

In a more personal way I would like this course to be fun, to get to know people and make friends and finally I really want to pass this course.
